They called it summer love.

Love is one of the strongest emotions that can make people do just about anything with the other emotion being anger. Many have described love as being biological others say its spiritual. Not to get sentimental but I agree with the latter. We usually get childhood crushes on the cute girl or boy who sits in front of us our sometimes the teacher. These feelings are temporary and the real stuff comes when we enter junior high. Let me back track for a second and say that love must not be confused with lust which is a separate entity. There is a point where both become intertwined and it becomes a mess to sort out. Love is felt differently by every individual and yet the one thing that remains constant is the memories that are created. When we reflect upon them we nostalgically feel a rush of the love that was present when they where first formed. These memories can bring laughter and sadness.

There is a down side to being in love and that is that most of us think where in love when honestly where more enamored with the idea of being in love. All couples have fights but at some point a light bulb goes off in our heads and where like I never loved this person and am with them for selfish reasons. This may sound harsh but it's true. Sadly the worst part is when a couple decides to have children to see if that might fix the situation. True love (soul mates) is hard to describe because its dependent on the individual. True love as I see it isn't perfect your gonna have arguments and your not gonna have a hundred percent compatibility with interests that either partner has but things work themselves out. It's about going above and beyond for that one person and also expecting your partner to do the same when the need arises.

Someone I once knew described love as a poison that infected both parties till one was given the antidote and was able to move on. I think my friend was a little bitter about a past relationships and betrayals that he may have endured but then again we all feel that way at some point in our lives. Love moves in mysterious ways and yet we must ask ourselves are we still capable of feeling love the way we envision it. Statistically speaking most marriages end in divorce. Yet what drives us to find that special someone is when we hear stories of couples who have been together forever and when one partner dies the other losses the will to live on. That is love and contrary to believe it cannot be bought or manufactured and bottled up in some fancy bottle.

We're all bigots in some manner.

Thinkstock Singles

The title says it all we're all a little bigot and don’t deny it. Before I rant and rave let me define what ethnicity and race is."Ethnicity is identification with and feeling part of, an ethnic group and exclusion from certain other groups because of this affiliation"."Race, like ethnicity in general, is a cultural category rather than a biological reality. That is, ethnic groups, including "races," derive from contrasts perceived and perpetuated in particular societies, rather than from scientific classifications based on common genes"(Wade 2000). Keeping this all in mind we identify with one of the classifications that are given as Asian, Black, Hispanic, White or Other. Personally I fit in the Other category and will relate some of my own experiences before I get into general observations. In my early school years the neighborhood I lived in was mostly white and the classes I attended had the token black kid, the smart Asian kids and one or two Hispanics kids who could pass off as white. During lunch breaks we would all break off into different groups and I would usually shift from one group to the other and I remember how each group treated one another differently and at that age our preconceived notions about race had already been established. As the years passed the neighborhood changed and I figured that all those engrained notions would shift but they didn’t. The Hispanic students would be bias against the darker skinned ones or if they didn’t come from the same country and the same principle applies to the Asian or Black students. I want all of you to take a minute or two and think back and you will see that you probably observed this but didn’t really think much about it.

The media and society are partly to blame but so are families. Within our own families we all have that one person be it mother, uncle, aunt or etc who always says something derogatory against a specific ethnicity or race. We all listen to these comments and some of us try to be different but where not. You get on a train are you really going to sit next to the group of people who are different from you or will you sit next to one person who most resembles you or seems less threatening but yet could be more dangerous that those we just judged. The harsh reality is that sometimes the comments we hear are true but only to a certain extent. Are all Asian people really smart of course not but the majority are so the stereotype is built up and those that aren’t will they get judged themselves by the smart ones. Do all Hispanic people go on welfare no but some do and they do it on purpose and thus we judge an entire race or group based on the actions of a few select individual within that population. You might be wondering what I believe in and here’s my view. I try to not judge people based on what they look like or where they come from but on the actions they take against me personally.

Tragedy

Haiti Struggles For Aid And Survival After Earthquake
Its been over two weeks since the earthquake devastated Haiti. In that time much Aid has been sent to this poor nation. Personally I feel that we should all be able to contribute any amount of money to ease the pain that the Haitian people will have to deal with in the years ahead. No pressure should be felt by those who donate especially when going to stores or when passing by people asking for donations on the streets.

There has also been controversy over this earthquake and that it was due to God abandoning this nation as expressed by Reverend Pat Robertson on the 700 club. We are all entitled to freedom of speech but come on what was Robertson thinking his words of course are his alone and evangelicals should not be judged because of him. Haiti is deeply religious and a great majority of the people are Catholic and following the initial hours of the earthquake makeshift churches where put up.

Much of the relief aid that has been sent to this island nation has to still reach the survivors in the interior. The supplies mostly have been deposited in the coastal areas so far with some reaching the interior .I will critique the assistance of other governments in saying that much has still to be done in ensuring the safety of the survivors from those who would turn a tragedy into an opportunity to make a profit. Officially the government of Haiti has called off the search for any more survivors as grim as it may sound the harsh reality does set in that those who could have been rescued where not reached in time.

In time the people of Haiti will overcome all that has befallen them. Some argue that it is our duty as Americans to help rebuild others say that it should be a world wide effort. What most fail to realize is that while these debates go on the struggle will continue for the Haitians as long as the original problems that they had are not first resolved.

A beginning of sorts.

Well this is my first blog in a long time it is entitled Truth of the Wolf in Latin. I wanted something eccentric for a title so that's what I came up with. Lets see most of the stuff that I will post will deal with a variety of things that I feel warrant some sort of discussion. It will be updated when I have time between dealing with classes, work and other things that keep me occupied. Anything you read may at times be paradoxical and you may not agree with me and that's fine this blog is a way for me explore issues and ask questions any negative or positive comments are appreciated. Finally as I familiarize myself with the potential options that this blog has I may start posting links, pictures and etc.
